FAQ: Do we feed grain?

This is SUCH a great question and one that we are frequently asked. So, why not have a detailed answer, right here on our website. I’m glad you ask this question because, you SHOULD! Our answer is that currently we do INTRODUCE our cattle to grain. The grain we typically use is alfalfa pellets (alfalfa is a type of grass, so still grass in a pelleted form). There are a few reasons why and I will get into all the details. One reason is for convenience because, if cows get out, it is much easier to put them back where they belong if they will follow a bucket of feed! Another reason we may choose to feed some grain is if we have a sick cow that may need a nutrition boost or need for natural medicine such as apple cider vinegar. Many times we can avoid the need for antibiotics to be used on a sick cow if we can use other natural remedies, but adding them to grain can help with the consumption process. At the end of each day, we do simply what is best for the cattle. Grain is not fed as a main part of our cows diets, they are rotated regularly on lush grass (or fed hay in the winter) so we truly provide GRASS FINISHED BEEF. The biggest factor is that their main diet does not include grain. There are many instances that the term “grass fed” is used but grain is still included in a cows daily diet. Sometimes a customer wants/requests grain fed and we may accommodate that for that particular customer. We also have mother cows that we may “treat” with some tasty grain, because, they love it and deserve to be spoiled from time to time. I am happy and proud of our operation and our customers who trust our honesty and transparency!
